Raj Mohan, a vocalist and lyricist of Dutch origin, has gained recognition for his work in Bhojpuri language music. In the year 2011, he presented his first album of popular music which consisted of Sarnami-Bhojpuri verses intertwined with Hindi melodies and poetry. All of the compositions in the album were self-written and self-composed. It was the first time in the history of Surinamese music that the contemporary version of Surinam Bhojpuri was utilized in this manner.

Raj Mohan is the inventor of Sarnámi-Bhojpuri Geet in the Geet & Ghazal style, which was well-received across the globe with his album ‘Kantráki’ that was released in 2005.

Early life and career

Raj Mohan, a 5th generation Indian-Bihari descendant in Suriname, originates from a lineage of indentured laborers brought to Suriname by the British. His childhood was spent in Utrecht, Netherlands where his early talent in music was already evident.

When he turned 12, Mohan and his parents migrated from Suriname to the Netherlands.
